Author Visits

Gareth’s unique performances have taken him all over the world,

performing at Edinburgh Book Festival, Hay Festival, Bath Kids Lit Fest,

Cheltenham Literature Festival, Camp Bestival, Latitude, Wilderness,

Litteralund (Sweden), Singapore Word Festival & the Sharjah Book Fair.

He regularly visits UK & International schools, where he inspires,

entertains and enthuses audiences of all ages.

His lively interactive performances combine irreverent humour, unbridled energy and original songs inspired by his books (and played on a whatever instruments come to hand.) He works hard to demonstrate that reading, writing and story-telling should be, above all else, fun!

He is as comfortable playing at a music festival crowd as with whole school assemblies and creative writing workshops. He has books, songs and stories for both KS1 and KS2. His specially-written interactive short stories, props, songs and spontaneous approach to public speaking ensure that no two performances are ever the same.

"Thank You So Much for such a wonderful visit!  The whole school was buzzing with excitement all day and the pupils could not wait to meet you in their group sessions and have you sign their books.  The pupils have all said how much they enjoyed your sessions and the staff were so impressed with how your inspired the pupils especially appealing to our more reluctant readers and writers.  Your energy was just incredible and infectious, the fun you brought to the session really made each session an amazing event to inspire our children. On a personal note, at the end of the day I found my own son reading the book you signed for him, this is the FIRST time he has read a book without being asked, he then continued to read it on the bus to end of day enrichment.  So, a BIG thank you as a parent as well!"

Mrs Zoe Lees
Librarian
Ipswich High School

“An absolutely amazing day. He saw every class from Reception to Year 6 and each one was absolutely spellbound by his talks and performances. Never heard so many children doing dinosaur roars in one room before and the older children loved the Thornthwaite twins song. And a librarian’s dream comes true as I’m already getting children asking if Gareth’s books are in the School Library, a brilliant author to have in school this Book Week and very highly recommended.”
Laura Bennett, School Librarian, Tower Hamlets

“The children had an amazing day and I was thrilled to see two of our more reluctant writers sitting together in the library today writing a story and they told me it was because they had been inspired by your visit.”
Sam Couttie, Deputy Head of Richard de Clare School, Halstead.

“Gareth P. Jones’s presentations to our KS1 and KS2 classes were hugely entertaining, lively and interactive. He treated us to excerpts of his books and performed original music inspired by his writing. Everyone, from Reception to Year 6, enjoyed his visit immensely and the children are still buzzing about his quirky and darkly humourous books.”

Mrs Jennifer Kendall, Prep School Librarian, Forest School

“My 8-year-old Godson loved his school event with you! He’s autistic and has never ‘got’ fiction or pretence before. He came home and ordered his mum to order the books! He’s now reading them. This is a massive first. Thank you!”

“Gareth is a wonderful speaker, incredibly engaging and funny, the children (and parents) loved the songs, the ‘Martian Marshmallow Mystery’ plan and the aliens!”
Louise, Hertfordshire libraries

Cordelia Snelling, Year 5, Abbot’s Hill School

“It was awesome – the best author visit that I have seen so far, it was really fun. The author really interacted with the audience. I thought that he was really, really good and I really enjoyed the book, which I bought at the event and had signed by the author”
Molly Fenchelle, pupil at St Dunstans College

“The musical and amusing style of Gareth’s presentations alongside his evident enjoyment of interacting with the children, made it a much valued experience for all. The pupils were buzzing with enthusiasm on the days that followed, which was exactly what we hoped Gareth’s visit would achieve.”
Mel Costen (Annecy Catholic Primary School, Seaford)

“I thought that he was good. I liked his style of presentation using musical instruments, songs and card tricks, as well as the interesting way that he was reading from his book.”
Bruce Hunter, pupil at St Dunstans College

“Gareth gave a lively and funny performance that really engaged our pupils and provided a refreshingly normal and down to earth role model for the children to identify with. He really gave the children a sense that being a writer was something they could all aspire to and achieve.”
Virginia Fraher (Head teacher, Prior Weston Primary School)

“Our kids and teachers (and parents) loved your visit. The children will be talking about it for weeks to come and your books will soon be in tatters… Your presentations were full of energy and enthusiasm (and of course talent!!).”
Maureen McGilvrey, Victor Hugo School, Toulouse

“This was a very memorable day full of fun, song and enthusiasm. Gareth began the day by confidently delivering a humorous and motivating assembly which included songs andmusic, followed by tailor made workshops with years 3-6. … there is no doubt that the day spurred even the most reluctant reader to delve into the weird and wonderful world of Gareth P Jones.”
Sian Swinnerton (Woodford Green Primary)

“Gareth had the children enthralled from the start. Not only does Gareth explain where his inspiration comes from, how he develops the characters & storylines, he has composed a short song about each book. Each song really captures the mood & style of the books/ storyline, giving the audience a brief but valued insight. A novel approach that really does work. Garethproved to be hugely popular, informative, evocative & inspirational… children whilst queuing to buy books & meet Gareth didn’t stop singing lines from songs or conjuring up an atmosphere of a howling wind….”
Elaine Penrose- Books @ Hoddesdon, Event co-ordinator.

“Gareth came to our school during reading week and took an assembly. He entertained the children by reading passages form his books. He played the guitar and made everyone join in with the singing. It was great watching all the children participating. They have not stopped talking about it. He is an inspiration.”
Mrs E Ibrahim (Marian Vian Primary School)
